Inspired by the incense burner work by the Japanese metal master Shoami Katsuyoshi, the box top is overlaid by the sophisticated chrysanthemum pattern. Master Wakamiya applied Kanshitsu, a Japanese dry lacquer technique to create the three-dimensional petals. Inside the delicate round box, gold powder and a tiny raden butterfly is inlaid. As said in the Xiushi Lu (髹飾録), the best raden should always be exquisite and detailed as the painting.
