Drawing in the dark

“The texture and feel of lacquer objects while soft to the touch, are very hard-wearing, and although often delicate looking are not at all fragile.” Tanigawa‘s lacquer sculptures while created with traditional techniques and training, display supple lines and curves associated with brush strokes seen in ink drawing, reflecting the artist’s own artistic philosophy. The resulting sculptures are unique contemporary objects made from lacquer that have the lightness of lacquer objects but with structural form, polished and executed to perfection using traditional materials and techniques.
